Sneak-peek into the latest tech of switches and regulators
If you have a long hallway at your place or a large
family room with entrances on both ends, you might have faced the trouble of
walking all the way to the other end only to switch on a light or maybe a fan. You
might have also faced the same trouble if you live in a duplex. To switch on a
light at the staircase, your mom has to come all the way from the kitchen or
her bedroom. I am sure this thing really irritates your mom or anyone living in
a big house for that matter! This is exactly where a two-way switch board comes in handy for us.
The traditional function of a two-way switch is to control one light from two different
locations. For instance, such a switch could be installed at two opposite ends
of the hallway or maybe at both entrances in the large family room that would
operate one overhead light or bulb. Thus, the functioning of a two-way switch releases you from the
pain of stumbling through the dark to look for a switch. Let us find out how do
these switches work? These switches work on the principle of single pole double
throw configuration. Each of the switches hold a common terminal with a pole.
However, the latest upgradation to these switches has enabled the touch panel
along with four terminals for light, live wire, neutral wire and communication
line.
Technology
with its advancement has been doing wonders and creating spaces that are more
comfortable to live in. Not just this, the advancement in technology is also
leading to less consumption of power. The upgraded version of home appliance
that are there in the market also provide us with the benefit of reduced electricity
bills! Let us take the example of new- aged fan regulators. As we know, ceiling fans are a common appliance
found in every room of an Indian household. With these fans, a regulator comes
along. Therefore, it is very essential to know which type to opt for as they
too can help save or waste electricity.
You will find 3
types of fan regulators in the
market: electric, step-type electronic and movable electronic. Electric
regulators are the traditional ones with resistors to decrease the voltage for
fans. However, the resistors in these regulators heat up fast while decreasing
the voltage. Therefore, the electricity saved by reduced fan speed gets lost as
heat. In contrast, electronic regulators use capacitors instead. Capacitors
have the feature of regulating fan speed by adjusting the waveform of power
supply, thereby reducing energy consumption by a good 30% to 40%. Therefore,
it’s a smart choice to opt for the electronic regulators as they can help
reduce your bills to a marginal difference.
